If all goes to plan, Metro 2033 will spawn a new movie series in the style of Mad Max and The Hunger Games...
Add another name to the list of videogame adaptations that are attempting to break the ongoing cinematic curse.
It's little secret that videogames have struggled to translate to the big screen, and we're dearly hoping that this summer, Duncan Jones'Warcraftmovie breaks the aforementioned curse. If it doesn't? There's plenty in the queue behind.
The latest to join it is an adaptation of first person shooter Metro 2033, a game set in post-apocalyptic Moscow. In the games, a city has developed underground, but it'd be fair to say it's not a very safe one. Players take on the role of Artyom, who ultimately heads to the wastelands and faces the kind of dangers you expect in such games.
Producer Michael De Luca is looking to bring Metro 2033 to the big screen, with the idea being to make this a franchise not a million miles away from the likes of MadMax and The Hunger Games.
F. Scott Frazier has penned the script for this one. We'll keep you posted as we hear of further progress...
