Keiji Inafune's Mighty No. 9 has suffered another delay. No solid release date has been set...

Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune's Mighy No. 9 has been delayed once again. This time, no release date has been set, although Inafune, in a letter to the game's backers, said that he "realistically" expects the game to arrive in "Spring 2016." As when the game was delayed to 2016 last August, Inafune said the delay is due to the multiplayer mode, saying that ""this is all a result of miscalculations on the part of us, the development staff ... for that we are sincerely sorry."

Inafune adds, "We have no excuses for disappointing our fans and especially our backers once more. We want to take this chance to express our sincerest apologies to everyone who has looked forward to the release."

More on this as we learn it.

Original Story 08.06.15:

Ah, 2013. We were younger then. We had dreams. We smiled. We might have even backed Keiji Inafune's Kickstarter campaign for Mighty No. 9, the platformer billed as his spiritual successor to the Mega Man series he created at Capcom. Backed to the tune of $3.8m, it surfed a wave of enthusiasm, both from Mega Man fans and those who just love 2D platform games from Japan.

Unfortunately, the side-scroller's been marred by a couple of delays, the first pushing its release from April this year to September. But with that second release date mere weeks away, Inafune's studio Comcept has sent out emails confirming that Mighty No. 9 has once again been pushed back - this time to the first quarter of 2016.

In a message sent to backers, Comcept stated that, while the "core content for the game is developed and in a complete state," there are still bugs elsewhere - apparently in its online elements:

As we have communicated in the updates to our backers, all of the core content for the game is developed and in a complete state. However, there are still bugs and issues pertaining to the online features that are included in the game. These bugs and issues have a direct affect on enjoyment of the game, so a decision was made to work these issues out before release.

While it's arguably better to delay a game rather than release a broken one, it's still frustrating to see the game pushed back once again, especially so close to release.

The news confirms earlier rumors of the delay, and arrives in the wake of Inafune's very odd Red Ash Kickstarter campaign, which suddenly acquired backing from a Chinese company towards the end of its run, while failing to garner the $800,000 goal it was looking for from fans. Thanks to the cash injection from that company - Fuze Entertainment - Red Ashwill still happen.

That game, a revival of Mega Man Legends' 3D action platforming, is scheduled for July 2017.
