The company’s focus on mobile games in the digital entertainment sector accounts for the majority of their revenue spike.
According to Konami’s latest financial report, the company has seen an increase in revenue and profits for the 2016 fiscal year. All in all, Konami has earned a total of 249.9 billion yen in revenue across all sectors, compared to the 218.2 billion yen it reported for the 2015 fiscal year. Their total operating profit is reported at 24.7 billion yen.
The breakdown of these earnings finds their Digital Entertainment sector bringing in the hefty majority at 132.7 billion yen in revenue, which the report attributes to a popular mobile game called JIKKYOU PAWAFURU PUROYAKYU, stable recurring revenues from token-operated games like TSUNAGA Lotta, and strong global and domestic sales of Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card games. The next second biggest earner was the Health & Fitness sector at 71.3 billion yen, followed by Gaming & Systems (34.3 billion yen) and Pachislot & Pachinko Machines (12.1 billion yen).

Konami has had an interesting year to say the least, announcing a shift in focus towards mobile gaming and culminating in the cancellation of Silent Hills and Hideo Kojima leaving the company to start his own studio. No matter your feelings about Konami in light of recent events, the numbers don’t lie, and this new business plan is clearly working for them from a monetary perspective right now.
But that doesn’t provide much comfort to those of us still mourning the loss of Silent Hills.
