Activision's CEO Believes That There Will Always Be A New Call of Duty Game

In an announcement that shouldn't shock anyone that appreciates the value of printing money via an annual video game franchise release, Activision's CEO Bobby Kotick has revealed that it is his intention to continue releasing Call of Duty games until the end of time. 

"We've had Call of Duty games played on virtually every console for the last 14 years," said Kotick in an interview with Marketplace. "So the idea of having a game that centers around armed conflict through history...you never run out of ideas for Call of Duty games. There will always be Call of Duty games. And they'll be played on a variety of devices."

That last line is the truly notable portion of the interview as it speaks to whether or not the Call of Duty franchise will be making a meaningful transition to the mobile platform. There have been mobile Call of Duty games released in the past, but, if you're struggling to remember one, that's because it hasn't ever been a priority market for the franchise. A big part of that likely has to do with the value of the series' multiplayer modes which don't necessarily make the transition to mobile. 

Even still, given the mainstream popularity of the franchise and the mainstream popularity of mobile gaming, it's not too hard to imagine how a significant mobile Call of Duty title might just rake in a silly amount of cash for the world's most valuable game publisher. 

While Kotick doesn't elaborate on what a major Call of Dutymobile game might look like, he does emphasize Activision's growing interest in moving popular franchises to the mobile arena as well as the company's general lack of complacency as it concerns their current position atop the video game world (at least so far as wealth is concerned). 

In any case, we look forward to the release of Call of Duty: Modern Advanced Warfare in the fourth quarter of 2077.
